Our Setting
Little Acorns Childcare was founded by Emma Smith in 2016, and begun as a childminding service in Emma's home. Emma has a passion for teaching and learning, and decided to start Little Acorns because she wanted to continue with her career as a teacher, while spending as much time as possible with her young daughter (Evie) before she started school. In 2018, Emma's sister Louise Mullen joined the team, and Little Acorns Childcare was rated as an Outstanding provider by Ofsted.
With a an ever growing waiting list for places, Emma and Louise then decided that they wanted to be able to offer their childcare service to more families. So, in January 2019, Little Acorns relaunched as a nursery. Based in the centre of Whitley Bay, our children are cared for across three rooms. Read more about our rooms here.
The Little Acorns children will have use of:
-
Three main rooms, with toys and activities to facilitate age appropriate learning, exploration and creative play.
-
A soft play, to promote physical development, and to enable the children to engage in physical activity on days where adverse weather means we can't take the children outside.
-
Table space for meal and snack times, where children will engage collectively in food preparation and healthy eating. We consider meal and snack times to be a really important aspect of a child's health and social routine and children will take all meals and snacks together.
-
Cots and floor cushions for nap times (we endeavour to maintain your child's nap/wake routines where requested).
-
There are lots of opportunities for children to engage in outside play and to experience 'the great outdoors'. We have excellent links with the nearby 'Station Master's Community Garden', which we frequently visit for picnics and play, and where children will have the opportunity to get involved with growing fruit and vegetables, as well as Trewitt Road Garden which is located just down the pedestrian-only lane from our setting. We are also very lucky to have Whitley Bay and Cullercoats beaches on our doorstep, and we visit the beach and local parks often for play, sandcastle building, picnics and litter picks.
