"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning". Fred Rogers
A typical day at Little Acorns

No two days are ever the same at Little Acorns! We have a strong focus on the arts, and believe that children can learn many important skills through creativity. Your children will be engaged in activities such as messy play, imaginative play, singing, and story time. Children bake their own bread, which we serve as part of our daily menu. We have a focus on mindfulness, and practice yoga and relaxation techniques with the children. We encourage children to express themselves through movement, and engage the children frequently in dance and physical exercise.

Being based in the centre of Whitley Bay, we are incredibly lucky to have a range of opportunities for our children to take part in, right on our doorstep. Although the outside space within our setting is limited, we have a number of parks within close walking distance which we use for outdoor play and games. We have a pop up fence which we use to create an outdoor learning area at the side of our building during the warmer months. We have forged excellent links within the Whitley Bay community, and frequently visit the Station Master's Community Wildlife Garden, which is just a short stroll from our setting, and where children learn about growing fruits , vegetables and other plants. Not forgetting, of course, the wonderful local coastline - we often visit beaches at Cullercoats, Brown's Bay and Whitley Bay, to further expose children to the great outdoors and to teach them about marine life and the importance of looking after our seas and oceans.

We will maintain any daily routines requested by parents and we will ask whether you have any preferences when you would prefer your child to nap during the day.
